Ozone: Nature's Deodorizer
6/28/2011

We all know what it’s like to walk into an area that has a strong odor. Whether it is mom forgetting that she was roasting a ham in the oven, a skunk coming in the pet door and spraying an area or just an old rodent that decided to die and stink up the joint. Sometimes odors can be one of the most difficult things to live with.

But what can you do? You have tried to scrub the floor. You cleaned out the oven and wiped everything in the kitchen down. You bathed the dog and yourself in tomato juice and you found and got rid of the deceased rodent. The real problem is that even after all this work you find yourself still gagging when you come into your house. It still gives others pause as they enter your residence. So what can you do? Where can you turn? You want to get rid of the smell but you don’t want to spray a bunch of chemicals in your house. You still want your baby to crawl on the floor when you are done treating your house and getting rid of that awful odor.

Here at NWA Restore-It we use Ozone.

Ozone is a naturally occurring deodorizer. Ozone is naturally found in the upper levels of our atmosphere. Essentially what happens is that O3 (ozone) will bond with odor causing molecules, and will oxidize those bad odors away. Have you ever noticed how the air outside always smells cleaner after a thunderstorm? This is because when lightning strikes near the earth ozone molecules are created and they naturally deodorize the air outside (along with a little help from the rain washing everything down).

But how does all this help you get rid of those hard to get odors in your home? Ozone has long been shown to be the most effective way of deodorizing anything. It is used in the restoration industry to both clean and deodorize all types of surfaces, including those that cannot be sprayed with harsh deodorizing chemicals.  We typically set up an ozone machine to run in a persons home for 24-48 hours and when the ozoning is complete the odors are just plain gone.

Once the ozone has been ventilated from the residence there are no remaining chemicals to worry about.  No lingering hazards to infants, children, adults, seniors, or pets. Ozone is one of those things that is hard to believe until you have seen it in action.

Ozone, when used as a part of a proper deodorization process, is effective to get rid of
Smoke (Cigarette, Cooking, Fires) odors
Skunk Odors
Mildew odors
Pet Odors
Decaying Pest Odors
And so many more

Because at certain levels ozone can be a respiratory hazard NWA Restore-It always advises that you have a professional operate an ozone machine.  If you have any questions about ozone technology or getting out a stubborn odor please contact us for more information. We would love to help you get rid of that stubborn odor.
